My Type 1 Story

Type 1 Diabetes

On November 15, 2013, my life changed forever. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and was admitted to the ICU with DKA. I was scared, I mean I was the girl who passed out when I saw a needle, and now I have to give myself shots everyday? Eek!

I had all the symptoms of Diabetes, but I just didn't put it together until that day. I was almost relieved to have a diagnosis and know I'm not crazy for being out of breath from walking to the kitchen.
And because I wasn't aware of all my symptoms, I thought I should post a #funfact sheet here:

Thankfully, my mom is a Physician Assistant, and her current specialty? Endocrinology. She seriously has been the best through out the past 2 years.

I am used too working on being comfortable with site changes. I am now on the Medtronic Insulin pump, Diabetes has become a regular part of my life, but I struggle sometimes maintaining my BG with the stress that school brings. I hope that I can share my story about finding the "balance" in graduate school,
